   DIY Banh Mi at Subway?

   Right off the bat, let me tell you that this simply did not work. 

   A couple days ago, I had an undeniable craving for vietnamese baguette sandwich or Banh Mi. Since I was stuck at my office in Sherman Oaks, I was out of luck. 

   Now, if I had been craving hummus or chandeliers, I would have been in business. There are several locations within a block of my office that offer these items. 

   I got it in my head that I’d be able to replicate most of the flavors at the Subway across the street. 

   I ordered a footlong on italian bread. Opted for the sweet onion teriyaki chicken (though in retrospect, ham may have been a better choice) in place of the seasoned pork. 

   Mayo, lots of cilantro, red onions, a few pickles, jalepenos and cucumbers. They didn’t have carrots. Added salt and pepper and a little bit of vinegar.

   

   I should have ordered more cucumbers. The whole thing didn’t feel fresh. The pickles and pickled jalapenos proved to be too salty - they didn’t even come close to the flavors of fresh jalapenos and vietnamese slaw.

   The quality of the bread also stood out. or lack there of. Too fluffy, too much. 

   Technically, it still tasted good - but next time I’ll probably just make the effort to drive somewhere. Anyone know of a good Banh mi spot in the 818?
